Clepto Mermaids and the Tiger Goddess

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Above is an unfinished assignment. I had to pick two existing ads, then photo collage the product into an illustration. The class suggested I add more gold jewelry for balance. Below it are five preliminary sketches. At the bottom is a random page out of my sketchbook. Rawr. :) I get inspired by Hindu Goddesses sometimes. If you can guess the story I'll give you something special.

the Lions Den

Above is the left half of my painting final. Its a master copy of Ruben's Daniel in the Lion's Den. The photo makes it look so small!! It's actually a 7ft x 10ft diptych sitting in my downstairs living room. I'll post the full painting next month when I make enough room to lay it out and document it together. Lately I've been interested in the process of hunting.

Optical Illusions

Justin and I drove north from Baltimore city for a good thirty minutes and took an exit called "Mt Carmel" and this is the site we ended up at. A harvested crop field. It was strange I've never explored one in the fall time. I wanted to capture the energy of the place at that moment. The orchestra of crickets at peace, warning calls of crows, buzzards circling. The thing is when I scanned this painting in it didn't look right. I started playing with it and looking in the mirror at it to try and figure out what was making it not feel right. Is this a bad thing that it needs to be tilted? I'm no painting major. I've always struggled with the restriction of a rectangle sheet of paper or canvas. I'm more of an organic, circles, spirals kind of person.
